Sundowner Sunlite 6 Horse LQ Overview

Sundowner is a well-known builder of aluminum horse trailers, and the Sunlite line is known for combining light weight with useful living space. This 2005 Sundowner Sunlite 6 Horse LQ follows that idea, with all-aluminum construction, an aluminum floor and a full set of living quarters features.

The living quarters include a kitchen with a refrigerator, cooktop and microwave, a living area with a sofa, and a bathroom with a sink, toilet and shower. A/C, a furnace, a radio and an antenna help keep you comfortable on the road and at the show grounds.

Behind the living quarters, a midtack with a walk-thru door connects you to the horse area. The horse area carries six horses and includes mangers and an escape door. An electric awning gives you shade outside the trailer.

Living Quarters Features of the Sundowner Sunlite 6 Horse LQ

Midtack and Horse Area

The Sundowner Sunlite 6 Horse LQ includes a midtack with a walk-thru door. A midtack keeps saddles and bridles between the living quarters and the horses, so your tack stays close and organized without taking up living space.

The horse area carries six horses and includes mangers and an escape door. With an 8′ (24 hands) inside height, the trailer offers generous headroom for taller horses, helping them balance and travel with less stress.

Trailer Construction and Running Gear

Life on the Road in a 6 Horse Living Quarters Trailer

A 6 horse living quarters trailer is built for riders who spend real time away from home. Instead of booking hotel rooms and driving back and forth, you can stay right next to your horses.

In the Sundowner Sunlite 6 Horse LQ, you can cook dinner in the kitchen, relax on the sofa with the A/C or furnace running and take a hot shower before bed. In the morning, the midtack and walk-thru door make it easy to grab tack and get horses ready.

For trainers and large families, the ability to haul six horses and stay comfortable in the same rig can save both time and money over a season.

Planning a Weekend Trip

A little planning helps you get the most out of a living quarters trailer. Before you leave, fill the fresh water tank, check the LP tanks and make sure the battery is charged. Stock the refrigerator with easy meals and pack bedding, towels and toiletries so the living area is ready when you arrive.

For the horses, pack hay, feed, buckets and any medications, and load tack into the midtack the night before. When you arrive, level the trailer, set up the electric awning and connect to 110v power if it is available. If not, the generator can keep the A/C, furnace and appliances running.

At the end of the trip, empty the gray and black water tanks at an approved dump station, clean out the horse area and wipe down the kitchen and bathroom. Following a simple routine like this keeps the Sundowner Sunlite 6 Horse LQ ready for the next adventure.

Hauling Fewer Than Six Horses

Many owners of a large trailer often haul fewer horses than its full capacity. On those trips, open stalls can give horses more room to spread out or hold hay bags, buckets and extra gear.

When a bigger group needs to come along, you have room for six without needing a second rig. That flexibility is helpful for trainers with changing client loads, families with a growing string and anyone who hauls horses for friends. The Sundowner Sunlite 6 Horse LQ adapts to each trip, whether you are hauling two horses or a full load.

Because the trailer is all aluminum, routine care is simple. Rinse the exterior after winter trips, check the awning and seals each season and keep up with generator service. With regular care, the Sundowner Sunlite 6 Horse LQ can continue to serve as a comfortable home base for you and a safe ride for your horses for many seasons to come.

A Day on the Road with the Sundowner Sunlite 6 Horse LQ

Picture loading up early on a Saturday for a ride with friends. Your gear is packed, the horses are loaded and the trailer follows steadily behind your truck.

At the trailhead or show grounds, you unload, tack up and get to work. Afterward, the horses load back in for the ride home. The same trailer works just as well for lessons, clinics, shows and vet visits. That is the kind of dependable, versatile hauling the Sundowner Sunlite 6 Horse LQ is built for.
