Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load Overview

Lakota is an industry leader in living quarters horse and livestock trailers and builds the entire trailer, including the living quarters, in one facility. The Bighorn is one of Lakota’s most popular horse trailer lines, and this 2019 Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load combines a six-horse slant load with an 11′ Bighorn conversion living quarters.

The trailer has a 39′ floor length, a 47′ overall length, an 8′ width and an 8′ height. It is an aluminum build finished in black, with a side load gooseneck design that makes loading and unloading horses easier.

The horse area includes a stud divider, shallow mangers for larger horses, flow-thru gates, an escape door, a side ramp and drop-down head and tail windows. Up front, the living quarters includes a kitchen, a bathroom with shower, ducted A/C and furnace and sleeping space for four. The trailer is generator-ready, though a generator is not included.

Horse Area of the Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load

The horse area is designed to carry six horses safely and comfortably on long hauls.

Six Horse Slant Load with Side Load Design

The six-horse slant load layout lets horses ride at an angle, which many horses find comfortable for balancing during travel. A side ramp makes loading and unloading easier, especially when you want to unload horses in the middle of the trailer without moving every horse behind them.

Stud Divider and Flow-Thru Gates

A stud divider provides extra separation when you need it, and flow-thru gates help air move between stalls for better ventilation.

Shallow Mangers for Larger Horses

Shallow mangers give horses a place to eat hay during the trip while leaving more room for larger horses to stand comfortably.

Ventilation and Insulation

The trailer is fully insulated, and drop-down windows at both the head and tail let you maximize airflow on hot days. Good ventilation helps keep six horses comfortable and calm on long trips.

Escape Door and Walk-Thru Door

An escape door gives you a safe exit after tying a horse, and a walk-thru door connects the living quarters to the horse area so you can check on horses without going outside.

Mats and Double Rear Doors

Mats provide cushioned footing for your horses, and double rear doors open wide for easy access and cleaning.

Storage and Tack

• Full rear tack
• Integrated hay pod
• Hayrack

A full rear tack gives you plenty of room for saddles, bridles and blankets for six horses, while the integrated hay pod and hayrack carry hay on top of the trailer so you have more room inside.

Living Quarters of the Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load

The 11′ Bighorn conversion provides a full living quarters with a power awning outside.

Kitchen

• 6.0 refrigerator

The micro-convection oven works as both a microwave and an oven, so you can bake, roast or reheat meals on the road.

Sleeping Arrangements

The Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load sleeps four comfortably, with a bed in the gooseneck, a sofa sleeper and a fold-down bunk. That makes it a practical choice for families, couples traveling with a helper or small teams.

Bathroom

The bathroom includes a toilet, shower, bathroom sink and vanity, so you can freshen up after a long day at the arena or on the trail.

Climate Control and Water

• Ducted A/C
• Ducted furnace
• Fresh, gray and black water tanks
• Water heater

Ducted heating and cooling spread air evenly through the living quarters, keeping you comfortable in any season.

Power

The trailer is generator-ready, so you can add a generator if you plan to camp off grid. A generator is not included. Two LP tanks fuel the furnace, cooktop and water heater.

Running Gear and Exterior

• Triple 7,000 lb. axles for heavy-duty capacity
• 17.5″ Alcoa wheels and tires
• Hydraulic jack for easy hitching
• Spare tire
• Power awning

Triple axles and 17.5″ wheels and tires give the Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load the strength to carry six horses plus living quarters with confidence.

Hauling a Full String

Moving six horses at once takes planning, and the Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load is built for the job. Shallow mangers give larger horses extra room, while the stud divider lets you separate a stallion or a horse that needs its own space. Flow-thru gates and drop-down head and tail windows keep air moving through the trailer.

With a full rear tack, there is room for saddles and gear for every horse, and the integrated hay pod and hayrack carry enough hay for a long weekend. For trainers, ranches and busy families, the Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load can replace multiple trips with a single, efficient haul.

Six Horse vs. Four Horse Living Quarters

Many buyers compare six-horse and four-horse living quarters trailers. Here is how the Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load stacks up:

• Capacity: Two extra stalls let you haul a full team, sale horses or a friend’s horses in one trip.
• Fewer trips: Hauling six at once can save fuel, time and wear on your truck.
• Flexibility: When you haul fewer horses, the extra stalls give horses more room or hold gear and hay.
• Tradeoff: A six-horse trailer is longer and heavier, so it needs a heavier truck and more care when parking and turning.

For trainers, ranches and busy families who regularly move more than four horses, the Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load offers capacity that a smaller trailer simply cannot match.

Life on the Road

A six-horse trailer often means long days and multi-day events. The 11′ Bighorn conversion is designed to make that easier. A kitchen with a micro-convection oven lets you cook real meals, the bathroom with shower helps you freshen up, and ducted heat and air keep you comfortable in any season. With sleeping space for four, the whole crew has a place to rest. For many owners, the Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load becomes a home base for the entire show season.

Adding a Generator

The Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load is generator-ready, but a generator is not included. If you plan to camp at events or trailheads without hookups, adding a generator will let you run the A/C, microwave and other electrical items. Our team can talk with you about options. If you mostly stay at places with shore power, you may not need one at all, which can save you money up front.

A Weekend with the Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load

Picture arriving at a three-day roping with six horses and hay in the pod. You unload horses down the side ramp, run out the power awning and plug in at the grounds to run the ducted A/C. Saddles come out of the full rear tack, and horses settle in at the trailer.

That evening you cook in the micro-convection oven, relax on the sofa and get a hot shower before turning in. Kids or helpers take the fold-down bunk and sofa sleeper. In the morning, you check your horses through the walk-thru door and head to the arena. That is the kind of weekend the Lakota Bighorn 6 Horse Side Load is built for.
